Think, for a moment, about how chaotic it is to move to a new residence. Now imagine what it would be like to make this move with only a garbage bag in which to carry a few possessions. Today in the state of Georgia, this is how thousands of foster and newly adopted children make their custodial transitions, sometimes several times a year.

That’s where Communities for Children steps in with its Smooth Moves Luggage Campaign. The goal is to give each foster and newly adopted child one piece of luggage, a simple item that helps them to make custodial transitions with a sense of dignity. The luggage is delivered to local offices of the Division of Family and Children Services for distribution to the children.

I invite you to help thousands of young Georgians in foster care and adoptive homes by making a donation of new or gently used suitcases, large duffle bags or a monetary donation to the Smooth Moves Luggage Campaign.
