There are many reasons to advance your education - and your career. Increasing your education:

Here is some basic information about the different certificates, diplomas and degrees in early childhood education available in the state of Georgia:
  • Obtaining your CDA credential involves a program of study covering 120 training hours. Candidates pursuing the CDA credential document their child care experience and skills through a professional resource file, parent questionnaires and classroom training in eight different subject areas.
  • If you are interested in the CDA classes leading to a credential, you may call your local R&R (Resource & Referral agency) for more information. Click here for information on the R&Rs in the state of Georgia.
  • There is also a CDA Class Notification List available on this web site if you cannot find a class in your area at the present time. Click here if you wish to place your name on the CDA Class Notification List.
  • Each year, certain Child Development Associate (CDA) preparation courses, offered by colleges and universities, are determined eligible for the SCHOLARSHIPS program for early care and education professionals. Click here for more information.

  • A Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) is available from any of Georgia's Technical Colleges. It involves a short program of study, usually in the range of 15-59 hours.

  • Some students may want to consider online learning rather than campus-based studies.  For more information on the TCC programs available through Flint River Technical College's Online Learning program, call Gary Larson at 706-646-6201 or visit: www.flintrivertech.edu/online/certificates.php
  • For early care and education professionals desiring to apply for the SCHOLARSHIPS program, the appropriate degree must be pursued at a HOPE-eligible/SACS-accredited institution or any one of Georgia's Technical Colleges. The applicant must first apply for traditional financial aid (among other requirements). The DTAE also sponsors free six-hour refresher courses for students who are planning to enroll in a technical college; the ASSET/COMPASS Preparation Workshop is for non-traditional students who are early childhood professionals. Click here for more information. (The training for ASSET/COMPASS Prep Workshops are DECAL accepted credit in Competency Areas ECE-7, SAC-7 and ADM-7.)

  • May be awarded as an Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Sciences (AS) degree
  • Generally requires a minimum of 110 credit hours
  • For early care and education professionals desiring to apply for the SCHOLARSHIPS program, the appropriate degree must be pursued at a HOPE-eligible/SACS-accredited institution or any one of Georgia's Technical Colleges. The applicant must first apply for traditional financial aid (among other requirements).   • May be awarded as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree
