Teach children these five bike safety rules to help them avoid serious, possibly fatal crashes:

  1. Before you get on your bike, put on a helmet.
  2. Never ride out into a street without stopping first.
  3. Obey stop signs.
  4. Check behind you before swerving, turning or changing lanes.
  5. Never follow another rider without applying the rules.

Take time to practice bike safety with your child. Practice and positive bike safety habits make for a safer bike riding experience.
