Scabies is a skin infestation of a mite. It is extremely contagious.

Symptoms include:

  • Severe itching, especially at night when the child is warm and the mite is more active
  • A rash may be a straight line where the mite is traveling
  • Infants often have a rash in the diaper area
  • Restlessness, poor sleep

Treatment:

  • Call health care provider
  • Apply cream recommended by your health care provider from neck to toes at night and wash off in the morning
  • Give an over the counter medication recommended by your health care provider for itching
  • Treat all family members
